Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. Caused by large drive upgrade or driver issue.

This issue happened to me after I upgraded my drive from a 300GB to a 1TB Toshiba drive. Note I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit version on an HP laptop.
