upgrade a xampp localhost install

Written by

the only files you really need to keep are in the following list. these files hold the MySQL privilidges. Other that these you only need to be concerned if you did any custom mods ie php.ini  etc..

what i did

  1. move the htdocs (user data only) to the new htdocs
  2. copied the mysql user created databases to the new install in the mysql/data folder
  3. i overwrote the following files using the copies from my old install /mysql/data/myssql/
  • db.frm
  • db.MYD
  • db.MYI
  • user.frm
  • user.MYD
  • user.MYI

The is a upgrade procedure from a xampp forum member

  • Save all user-created databases (dirs under mysql\data)
  • Save all user-created pages under htdocs
  • Save all modified configuration files (thank god for perforce....)
  • Uninstall xampp.
  • Wipe apachefriends/xampp dir.
  • Install full version of 1.7.
  • Restore all modified config files.
  • Copy saved pages back to htdocs
  • Copy databases back to mysql\data
  • Wish you hadn't wasted days trying to fix the upgrade.
